Latte Love (("o"))

I’m not a person who loves milk very much. Heck, I’m not a person who even loves milk at all! But Dutch Lady’s most recently launched product has given milk a redefinition where taste is concerned *grin* No, no… I am NOT exaggerating here, spare me a minute to make my point…

The only connection I have with milk is through my sister and Chin Aun who both works for Dutch Lady. Is it because of their love for milk? *ponder* hehe… I don’t know… But recently, both of them have been really geared up with the Dutch Lady Iced Latte launch and it kinda affected me too I guess. Come to think of it, it’s almost impossible for me NOT to be influenced, I’m staying under the same roof as the both of them!! Anyways, I was pretty skeptical about how the Iced Latte would taste, in my mind, it’s probably gonna taste the same as milk anyway… but, I was still looking forward to tasting it (perhaps just to prove to my sis and Chin Aun that it's not gonna make milk taste any better? hehe). And whaddaya know... I was pleasantly surprised when I took my first hesitant sip of the Dutch Lady Belgian Chocolate Latte on Sunday morning =)

My opinion here, I can honestly say (cross my heart and hope to die!), is absolutely unbiased. I wouldn’t write anything about milk in my blog cos I generally hate it? And I never drink milk unless I absolutely have to… I even prefer to take my cereal without milk! My point here is, this latte really rocks! As much as I hate to admit it, It has given milk a brand new meaning and has shown me that milk really isn’t all that bad!! Now I can look at milk in a different perspective. Imagine, for someone who hates milk as much as I do, I already find the lattes sinfully delicious. What about the people who love milk?? They’re so gonna get addicted...

The latte available at all leading supermarkets in two tantalizing flavours: Belgian Chocolate and Vienna Coffee *yum* giving Coffee Bean a run for its money eh? Hehe… for more information, do log on to http://www.dutchlady.com.my/

When I’m done posting this, I’m gonna get my Dutch Lady Vienna Coffee Iced Latte from the fridge… It is, after all, served best when chilled *wink*

My McDonald's Meal

When I woke up this morning, I thought that today would be a horribly boring day spent studying in the living room with Jiun, followed by a few more excruciating hours spent on campus. BUT... I got a call from mei at 11-something and got an invite for lunch! *whoopee* looks like I finally get my free meal eh? *wink*
She came to pick me up along with Cynthia and Cindy in tow! We went to the McDonalds at Section 17 =) She treated me to a Grilled Chicken Foldover and an Orange McFizz *yum*! Thanks for the meal, mei!! It was wonderful spending lunch time with you, not because of the food, but because of the company *hugs* I really enjoy our crappy chats and nuttiness and hope that our friendship and sisterhood will go a long long way ya?!

Old School R&B!!

As usual, in my daily procrastination of studying, I dug out some of my old Color Me Badd and Blackstreet music... I listened to them and it was sheer R&B!!! What ever happened to great bands like that? Are grand bands like that a thing of the past and are slowly replaced by repulsive wannabe boy bands?!?! *puke* the mere thought of that is making me sick...

For those who have no idea what Color Me Badd is, let me enlighten you. In 1991, these 4 vocal quartets broke through and topped the R&B charts with the suggestive "I Wanna Sex You Up". After that was "I Adore Mi Amor", "All For Love" and my personal favourite, "Forever Love". Ahhh... Then there was the not-so-famous "I'll Never Love This Way Again" and "Last To Know" (Human Nature did a cover for this song too), but I liked them anyways! In their final album, Forever Love, only "The Earth, The Sun, The Rain" made it to the charts and that was where their success ended and they disbanded *sobs*
As for Blackstreet; it was one of the biggest R&B groups in the 90's that shook the airwaves with the unforgettable "No Diggity".
"I like the way you work it
(no diggity)
I got to bag it up
"
Anyone who loves music would have heard of that song *grin* Then they tugged at our heartstrings with the soulful "Don't Leave". Color Me Badd did more soul R&B whereas Blackstreet was more of a HipHop R&B Band, but both are equally successful in their own ways. Of course, that was waay long ago. The last album they released was back in July 2004. Over a year ago... *sigh* The last song that I remember they did was "Take Me There" featuring Mya for the Rugrats soundtrack.

Here's a final tribute to these great bands that produce genuine R&B music *cheers*

Pre-Examinations Stress *scream*

Sounds as though I am getting stressed out? *ponder* Then how come I can't seem to get anything done? I keep telling myself that I have to get my notes in order for each of the 6 subjects this semester, but so far, nothing has been done. In my mind, I have mapped out that by today, I would have finished at least half of my Culture & Communication notes, but I have only read a few pages! I just don't know why tv shows that did not attract me before seem so appealing to me now... and I have never bothered with whether the living room has been swept and mopped but it seems so important that I have to get it cleaned up now. I used to put off having to either wash my clothes or sending them to the laundromat but suddenly, it's vital that I get it done immediately. Is this procrastination of studying rearing it's ugly head???

Frankly, I don't really feel the stress much. But then why is it that I am literally sprouting pimples??? When I say sprouting, I literally mean the Malay proverb that says "Tumbuh Macam Cendawan Selepas Hujan" (loosely translated as mushrooms sprouting after the rain). Also, why am I having an awful rash outbreak? And waking up early in the morning (that's like really very incredible for someone like me) telling myself that I have to study only to spend the entire day watching 3rd Rock from The Sun, bathing, listening to Rooster and fooling around with my housemates??? Is it just me or does every student suffer from the same pre-examinations symptoms???

With this post in my blog, I include a crude image of my biggest fear... getting a D (ok.. in my case, it is getting a C, a D or worse, FAILING!!) in any of my subjects, especially in the stupid programming subject that I was forced to take this semester. Object-Oriented Programming Language... BAH... what in the world would I ever need that for anyway? *curse*

All I can do now is to cross my fingers and pray... REAL HARD!

Great Expectations

In our everyday lives, we are bound to have certain expectations, no?

The greater the expectation, the greater the disappointment.

1. You cannot just waltz into other people's lives and EXPECT them to pretend as though the world revolves only around you.
2. You cannot EXPECT others to care when you yourself did not care.
3. You cannot EXPECT others to include you when you have never bothered to take the time to include others when you had things planned.
4. You cannot EXPECT others to love you when you don't love them in return.
5. Respect is earned... Don't EXPECT others to respect you when you just demand them to.
6. Don't EXPECT others to give a damn about you when you have never given a damn about them.

Argh!!! in conclusion, just don't expect too much! Treat others like how you wish others to treat you, regardless of certain 'obligations'.

Too much friggin' pent up frustration... It's good to let off some steam... *phew*

Car Trouble

On Friday, right after our last class; Jiun, Boey and I went to Midvalley to get some shopping done. That was around 3-something in the afternoon and the traffic was smooth flowing. Anyways, we window-shopped, tried on clothes, fooled around, had dinner and basically just hung around there until 9-something before heading on home. All was well until we reached the little slope near where we stay. Jiun's car started sputtering and heaving... We got a little freaked and Jiun thought it was because the car wasn't powerful enough to tackle the little slope. But that couldn't be the problem because we've been past the slope so many times already. Anyways, Jiun stepped on the pedal and we got past the slope... As we pulled into a parking space in the vicinity of the apartment, the car gave a final sputter before it totally died off!! Her car is of automatic transmission is it wasn't supposed to do that!

What's worse is that we suddenly smelt smoke and this time, we totally freaked out! We jumped out of the car as fast as we could and Jiun popped the hood. There were smoke coming out from under the hood and even from the lights on the car interior!! 3 clueless girls and one smoking car... Doesn't exactly spell "genius" here... Anyways, we were lucky that we were back home already so we got Chin Aun to come down from the house and opened the hood (we didn't dare to open it all the way for fear of it exploding in our faces! *wink*). After a couple of mins, he checked the water level and it was totally EMPTY! He told us that there was nothing else for us to do but to wait until the next day to get it fixed and asked why none of us took notice of the temperature indicator... Hmmm... I guess it never occurred to us to look there *sheepish look*

We got it fixed the next day and took it out for a joyride (on the way to dinner at ioi mall) and whaddaya know... the car started heating up again! The darned mechanic made the leak in the radiator even worse!! *curse* We had to stop at a bus stop and wait until the car cooled down before driving it (at an immensely slow speed on the Federal Highway) back home. We continued our joyride in Chin Aun's car anyway!! Hehe...

This morning, when Chin Aun and I went for breakfast, we noticed that the side mirror of his car is missing!!! I cannot believe that someone actually removed the side mirror!!! Chin Aun was just saying that in so many years that the car was in Penang, nothing like this ever happened before and the car has been in KL for less than 3 months *sigh* We were worried that we wouldn't be able to find a place to get it fixed cos nothing seems to be open in KL on Sundays. But luckily, someone came to our rescue and taught us how to go to a car accessory shop on Old Klang Road and we managed to get it done *yay* for under RM20, no less!! Hehe... Thank you!!!

Music... the greatest of the arts

I'm currently hooked on songs from a few artists, namely Coutney Jaye, Lene Marlin, Jay Sean and Rooster.

Courtney Jaye only released her album, entitled "Travelling Light" in June this year and her music is really something that everyone would turn their heads to. Her first single is "Can't Behave", a bouncy number bound to catch your attention. I heard it once on the air and went to check it out. Well... I'm hooked now on that song as well as the slow number "Can You Sleep?" and her third release, "Permanent". It doesn't hurt that she's gorgeous too, don't you think? :)

Hailing from Norway is Lene Marlin and her addictive acoustic music... I've been hooked on her music for a VERY VERY long time... since the year 1998 *whoa* (can you believe that?!) and I STILL love her music... her music is kinda similar to that of Courtney Jaye's. I accidentally stumbled on her album is Disc & Dat and when I heard "Unforgivable Sinner", I knew that I had to listen to the rest of the album. Obviously, I was not disappointed! Other than "Unforgivable Sinner", I also love "Where I'm Headed", "So I See", "A Place Nearby" and the ever popular "Sitting Down Here". She has a couple more albums and I just can't wait to check it out~!

Now about Jay Sean... His first single released here in Malaysia is "Stolen" and wow, i was prety impressed... Jay Sean is UK's first Asian crossover artist and his music is a unique blend of 'Desi' rhythms, Hip Hop and R&B. I thought "Stolen" was great, but when I heard "Dance With Me (Nachna Tere Naal)", I was absolutely blown away! I didn't know I could love fusion music so much! Hehe...

Finally, Rooster is a London based rock band and the voice behind the frequently played "Come Get Some". They give new meaning to rock music despite the somewhat silly band name (in my opinion anyway). Other songs that I find worth listening to are like "Deep and Meaningless", their cover version of "No Diggity"and "Staring at the Sun" to name a few. I found out about Rooster from Melissa... so, thanks Mel dear... *hugs*

Congratulations... Cynthia!~

celebrity of the day.... *drumroll*.... CYNTHIA~! *yay*

Back Home!

I'm back in penang and life is good.. *grin*
The air is fresh, the water is clean, the food is good, the traffic is smooth...
On the way back from KL, when I was on the bus, I vowed to try as hard as possible to sleep so that the journey home wouldn't seem so long. Although I manage to sleep only a little, it was ok, because I knew that I'd be coming home.

When I was on the Penang Bridge, I felt a little flutter in my heart... I'm FINALLY in Penang!! *cheer* At the bus station, when I saw my mom and my aunt waiting for me (it was 1am!), I've almost forgotten everything that was in KL... Hehe.. Ok.. aside from the nagging thought that keeps telling me that I have an assignment due on Friday. I felt as though all troubles have been left in KL and there's nothing to worry about here...

Think it's funny that a person can miss home so much? Try having to study in the hazy environment of KL, enduring the awful traffic situation and choking down the tasteless food there.. you will understand the feeling. KL's great... only if you're there to shop! And well... to work, I guess. But for me, there's no place like home :)

My `lil sister *wink*

Lookie~! A sister!! A little sister~! Hehe...
I've always been the youngest in my family and never had a little sister before... I have a real sister and about to get a brother-in-law, and an older god-sister in Penang who's just as nutty as I am.
Now, I've got a little sister along with a public love declaration as well *grin* and she's equally nutty!! What more could a girl ask for? Hehe... my 'little sister' is none other than Wai Sue Leng aka. scwar~! awww... ain't she the sweetest? Here's to her....
*hugs & muackz*

To cry? Or to laugh??

One of my dear pals forwarded this email to me and I nearly choked to death when I read it. You have got to be kidding me!!! What the hell is wrong with Proton? As if launching a car as ugly as the Proton Savvy isn't enough to make them the laughingstock of the entire nation?! Tiara replacement model eh? Indeed! It has replaced Tiara as Proton's most awful car yet~! *laughter* Hey hey.. I may be an amateur when it comes to cars. I admit, don't know much about them. But I am able to recognize what's 'beautifully challenged' when I see it~!

I guess some people are either oblivious to their own stupidity and absurdity or they are in denial... or better yet, they lack the intelligence and ability to comprehend the magnitude of the stupidity of their actions. Sometimes, it's articles like this that either make you cry or make you laugh to death.
Before I saw this article, I actually thought of getting a local car when I graduate... The Perodua MyVi's ok and the new Waja's not bad either~! But you know what? I'm starting to have second thoughts... Should I just save my hard earned cash for something that's better? Whaddaya think?

Proton Vendors Want Protection!
July 21, 2005 at 3:40 pm · Filed under
Cars, Local News

The Proton Vendors Association wants AP holders to be barred from importing cars that are in the segments of markets that Proton is in. Its president Dr Wan Mohamed Wan Embong outlines what they want to be implemented in the National Automotive Policy. They hope the government will consider it.
1. Vehicles with engine capacities less than 2 liters should be barred from being imported, regardless of whether it is new or used.
2. Approval letter should be seeked from Proton and Perodua before cars are allowed to be imported.
3. Cars more than 5 years old should not be allowed to be imported, regardless of engine capacity, other than those classified as vintage cars.
4. Declared price should be based on open market value decided by a council formed by the government. – Which is to include Proton and Perodua
5. Excise duty must be continued indefinitely.
6. Implement Vehicle End Of Life, where vehicles older than certain age should be declared not road-worthy, or have increased tax and other miscellaneous fees. This is to encourage new car sales.

This really sounds like a big joke doesn’t it? Ridiculous. Especially the last point. Do those rich people really think the rakyat is living a happy life rolling in cash? A lot of people have to suffer 7 to 9 year loans just to own the Proton Wira SE. You don’t have to talk about the Korean cars which is so-called cutting into your market segment. By the vehicle’s end of life, you would probably have just finished paying your loan! This will also destroy the second-hand car market.

Dr Wan Mohamed said Japan deregisters 5 million cars annually in it’s Vehicle End Of Life policy, where cars are chopped up and sold as half cuts for spare parts. These half cuts end up in Malaysia so that we can get quality Mitsubishi parts to replace the rubbish installed in our Proton cars when they fail us.

How can you compare with Japan? That place has a super efficient public transportation system. There, citizens have a choice whether to use a car or use the public transportation system. Here? Please, Dr Wan Mohamed. Go try taking the public transport system one day and you will change your mind.

The National Automotive Policy will be unveiled by the government in September. We will see whether the current government is concerned for the rakyat or is only interested in filling selected people’s coffers.

We Love... KEANE~!

Keane is one of the most talked about UK bands today. It is made up of Richard Hughes, Tim Rice-Oxley and Tom Chaplin. The first single I heard from them was "Somewhere Only We Know", but it didn't really get me hooked. When I heard "Everybody's Changing" over the airwaves... it was Hook, Line and Sinker! There's just something about the tune that makes you listen to it over and over again. The music style is somewhat similar to Coldplay's... So here are the cheers to Keane's "Everybody's Changing"~! \^_^/ *yay* that's beautiful music to the ears and food for the soul *wink*

Happy Birthday to... VictorOng~!

"We cannot tell the precise moment when friendship is formed. As in filling a vessel drop by drop, there is at last a drop which makes it run over; so in a series of kindnesses there is at last one which makes the heart run over."

Miss Saigon

I was first introduced to Miss Saigon when I was 13 years old (wow... 10 years back!) One of my sister's friends loaned her a copy of the cassette and I was totally mesmerized by it. Yesterday, I was just sorting through my CDs and I found the Miss Saigon CDs that my sister bought for me as a birthday present when I was 17. So, I started listening to it again, in the comforts of my room and I fell in love with it all over again...

Miss Saigon is a musical by Claude-Michel Schönberg and Alain Boublil and was produced by Cameron Mackintosh. It first premiered in London (Theatre Royal, Drury Lane) on September 20, 1989 and was opened on 11 April, 1991 at the Broadway Theatre in New York. Miss Saigon, along with famous musicals like Cats, The Phantom of the Opera and Les Misérables, is considered one of the greatest musicals in history.

Set in 1975 during the final days of the American occupation of Saigon, Miss Saigon is an epic love story about the relationship between an American GI and a young Vietnamese woman. Miss Saigon is based on a real-life episode, and tells the story of Chris (the American GI) who meets Kim, a beautiful, war orphan Vietnamese sold into prostitution in a Saigon brothel. The two have a reluctant sexual encounter, but end up falling madly in love despite their initial apprehension where Chris promised to marry Kim and to save her from the filth of Saigon. However, Chris is eventually forced to return to the United States as orders from Washington are for a total and complete evacuation of the embassy. The ambassador freezes the entrance of Vietnamese to the Embassy. During the next three years the two struggle to deal with the emotional aftermath of their affair.

The show was inspired by a photograph inadvertently found by Schönberg in a magazine of a Vietnamese mother leaving her child at a departure gate at Tan Son Nhat Airport to board a plane for the USA where her father, an ex-GI, would be in a position to provide a much better life.

One of the important issues highlighted in the musical is about Bui Doi's. Bui doi, meaning “less than dust”, is a slur aimed at the offspring of American soldiers and Vietnamese women who were left behind in Vietnam. Under communist rule, they are treated miserably, held in camps, and suffer injustice and prejudice. It broke my heart when John sang about bui-doi's in the musical. How can one treat other human beings as such?

A short excerpt:
Like all survivors, I once thought
When I'm home I won't give a damn
But now I know I'm caught
I'll never leave Vietnam
War isn't over when it ends
Some pictures never leave your mind
They are the faces of the children
The ones we left behind

They're called bui-doi, The dust of life
Conceived in hell, and born in strife
They are the living reminders
Of all the good we failed to do
We can't forget, must not forget
That they are all our children too

These kids hit walls on every side
They don't belong in any place
Their secret they can't hide
It's printed on their face
I never thought one day I'd plead
For half-breeds from a land that's torn
But then I saw a camp for children
Whose crime was being born

They're called bui-doi, the dust of life
Conceived in hell, and born in strife
We owe them fathers, and a family
And loving homes they never knew
Because we know deep in our hearts
That they are all our children too
....

Anyone who has never heard of Miss Saigon before, or have never taken the time to listen to it, take time to do so. You'll never regret it =) I'm just waiting to watch the musical for real...

The hardest word...

"Sorry seems to be the hardest word..."

Or so, Elton John says. Is it?

Well, let's think it through. How often do we say the words "I'm Sorry"?
When we are walking in a crowded area and a stranger accidentally steps on your foot. What are the chances that this person would take the time to turn around to say "I'm sorry I stepped on your foot, are you alright?" or something similar that amounts to an apology? Sure, in a case like this, sometimes, the person who stepped on your toe may express guinuine regret for the moment of pain that was wrongly inflicted on you.

Friendships are often wrought with misunderstandings and disagreements. Sometimes, tempers may flare when one is provoked but often, a grudging apology is uttered and all is forgotten. And sometimes, when this happens, we genuinely express our regret because we did not intend to hurt our friend's feelings. But often, the entire matter is shrugged off and life goes on...

Take an example that is closer to home. Your parents. In the span of growing up, how many times have you broken rules that your parents set? How many times have you answered back to them and broke their hearts? And did you ever take the time to reflect on everything that you have done and uttered a sincere apology to them? I am not talking about the "sorry"s that your parents made you say or the "sorry"s that you mutter in obligation or the "sorry"s that you retort with sarcasm. The "sorry" in question here is the one said with heartfelt remorse, contrite, guilt or shame. A "sorry" that is veracious and whole hearted.

Another perspective is close to the heart. In a relationship, arguments are virtually inevitable. In fact, a relationship without disagreements is pretty much unheard of. Well, "sorry" seems to be the hardest word to say, especially in a relationship. How many times have you raised your voice to your significant other and then just conveniently dismissed it without a proper apology? How many times have harsh words been exchanged without any "sorry"s being uttered? The lack of apology often leaves both parties with heavy grudges and lousy dispositions that can wreck the relationship. Why is it so difficult for us to comprehend that an apology is probably one of the most important elements needed to repair a damaged relationship?

*sigh* I guess everyone should have a slice of the humble pie when it comes to saying "I'm sorry". The worst thing is that it is easier to say sorry to a virtual stranger than it is to say the same words to the ones that we love. Why is that? Pride? Arrogance? I don't know... but what I do know is, I am going to give this a try and try my best to say that I am sorry when I have wronged someone. But it is going to take a lot of work and patience. To all that I love, be patient with me because this is going to take a little bit of time...

Maybe Elton John's right... SORRY does seem to be the hardest word after all...

Somebody loves me *wink*

awwww.... ain't that sweet?? *wink* hehehe...

Here's proof to show that Sue Leng once loved me!~ (okok... maybe she loves Cynthia first and then something, or someone, prompted her to add in the last few words?) hahaha..

Here's to you gal~! Hang on in there, you'll make it through this week ya? *hugs*

Tribute to a dear friend...

When I woke up this morning, there was someone specific on my mind. I don't know why but I just suddenly thought of her and then I realized that I haven't really been keeping in touch with her because of my busy schedule that is filled with tests, quizzes, assignments and the like...

Well... the person that I am talking about here is Melissa =) ahhh... old pal! How I've missed you so... Remember how we kept making arrangements to meet up when I was back in Penang and working in Bosch? Although we could hardly make the time but chatting with you almost EVERYDAY via email (thanks to Bosch's *ahem* facilities) make me feel as though we were back in our old crappy days *reminiscing* We'd talk about the most ridiculous things! *hehe* (only for us to know ya? *wink*)

Isn't it funny that our friendship is still holding on and going strong after so many years?! It's such a wonder that whenever I had a problem, you'd always be the first to know and you never judged me and you never looked at me through tainted glass. You'll always be the first to comfort me whenever there's a problem and however bad the situation, you'll find a way to make me laugh and in the end we'll be making a joke of it. You would always back me up, no matter what and never said a bad thing about me. And you know what? I would never ever do that to you either =)

We shared each other's passion for music, TV shows, cartoons, movies and many more stuff that are not appropriate to be publicly published (oh, as well as each other's morbid imagination!) and at the rate that we exchange sources for those (whoo-hoo...) *wink* hehehe... We even had our own version of Blessid Union of Soul's "Light In Your Eyes"... Remember? We wrote it during one immensely boring Add Maths tuition class. And you were always stingy with your singing voice but I'm glad I caught a snippet of your rendition of "I Drive Myself Crazy" =) And we'd listen to all sorts of Chinese songs without a clue of what the song is really about!

Remember our pact ya? I'll slap you silly if you ever lose the crappiness and I know for sure that you would do the same to me too *grin*
Just wanted to let you know that I truly appreciate you and you are the most wonderful friend that anyone could ever ask for *hugs* love you lots... and miss you so very much...

Here's to you:

We've known each other for the past 16 years;
We've been thru sunshine, rain, laughter and tears.

Fate threw us together when we were in standard one;

And up till today, our memories are a ton.

You've seen me at my worst, and at my very best;

We've done almost everything, sloughed thru a million tests.

We shared laughter in abundance, and lots of sadness too;

The times that I were down, you made sure I had a friend in you.

At times when the world shunned me and blocked me out;

You brought out the sun and chased away the clouds.

And now that we're almost adults; very much geographically apart;

We'll do little things, letting each other know what's in our hearts.

Any message or mail from you, will not fail to bring a smile to my face;

Because I know you'll always take the time, no matter how fast work's pace.

Though the years may go by, and we'll go our different ways;
